“I will go forward. I will smile at the rage of the tempest, and ride fearlessly and triumphantly across the boisterous ocean of circumstance… and the ‘testimony of Jesus’ will light a lamp that will guide my vision through the portals of immortality.”
-Eliza R. Snow

Integrity is not naiveté. What is naive is to suppose that we are not accountable to God.
Elder D. Todd Christofferson

“If, in the end, you have not chosen Jesus Christ it will not matter what you have chosen.”
Elder Neil A. Maxwell

“When you get a poem [in a public place], it happens to you so suddenly that you don't have time to deploy your anti-poetry deflector shields that were installed in high school.”
Billy Collins

"...as human beings, our work isn’t measured by taking the sum of our good deeds and the sum of our bad deeds and seeing how things even out, the only thing you need to think about is: Are you trying to improve, are you trying to do better? And if you are, then you’re a saint."
(Mitt Romney)

Different can be good.

“Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale of all.”

(Hans Christian Andersen)

"When you are involved in the work of the Lord, the obstacles before you are never as great as the power behind you."

"People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating and building, others could destroy overnight. Create and build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway."

~Mother Teresa

"There is in every true woman's heart a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity; but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity."
~Washington Irving

A More Determined Discipleship.

"Make no mistake about it, brothers and sisters, in the months and years ahead, events are likely to require each member to decide whether or not he will follow the First Presidency. Members will find it more difficult to halt longer between two opinions.

President Marion G. Romney said, many years ago, that he had 'never hesitated to follow the counsel of the Authorities of the Church even though it crossed my social, professional or political life.' "This is hard doctrine, but it is particularly vital doctrine in a society which is becoming more wicked. In short, brothers and sisters, not being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ includes not being ashamed of the prophets of Jesus Christ. . . . Your discipleship may see the time when such religious convictions are discounted. . . . This new irreligious imperialism seeks to disallow certain opinions simply because those opinions grow out of religious convictions.

"Resistance to abortion will be seen as primitive. Concern over the institution of the family will be viewed as untrendy and unenlightened....Before the ultimate victory of the forces of righteousness, some skirmishes will be lost. Even in these, however, let us leave a record so that the choices are clear, letting others do as they will in the face of prophetic counsel.

Neal A. Maxwell, "A More Determined Discipleship,"

Ensign, Feb 1979, 69–73

The Bridge Builder

The Bridge Builder
“The Bridge Builder”:

  • “You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide—Why build you the bridge at the eventide?”

    “There followeth after me today
A vast throng whose feet must pass this way.
This chasm that has been naught to me
To that great throng may a pitfall be.
    They too must cross in the twilight dim;
Good friend, I am building the bridge for them.”

...and that my name should be had for cgood and evil among all nations, kindreds, and tongues, or that it should be both good and evil spoken of among all people.

Emma

Lucy Mack Smith’s tribute to Emma:

“I have never seen a woman in my life, who would endure every species of fatigue and hardship, from month to month, and from year to year, with that unflinching courage, zeal, and patience, which she has ever done; for I know that which she has had to endure—she has been tossed upon the ocean of uncertainty—she has breasted the storms of persecution, and buffeted the rage of men and devils, which would have borne down almost any other woman.”

Scriptures I Love

D&C 84:88
And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.

D&C 19:23
Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.

Numbers 14:11
...and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
